DIY Wedding Invites for Cherie

If you are just tuning in both of my sisters are getting married this year.  One in April and the other in July.  Cherie came down this weekend to get away and do some wedding planning.  We had a great time.  I wanted to share her wedding invites so you can see how easy it is to make your own.

It does take some time and if you aren't used to using a word publishing program it may take you more time.  The money you will save on this DIY is worth the time.  Cherie's invites will cost her a total of $0.10 each.  Did you hear me?  10 cents each!!!!  Yep, I think that is well worth the 4 hrs we put in from start to finish.  When is comes to assembling, get your girlfriends together and have a party.  These little cuties are on my list of favorites invites I have ever made for anyone.

To start off, we scoured the internet for ideas of what she liked and was looking for.  We ran across this really neat blog that had free printable invites ( DIY invitations ).  Cherie loved it because it had her colors in the invite.  Plus it customized it to your color scheme and info.  Awesome!  Easy!  Well... Cherie didn't like some of the wording and we couldn't change some things due to the program so we came to a stand still.

Cherie also decided she wanted to birds on it so it matched her save the date card.  I then suggested birds on a branch.  We fell in love with this picture off a wedding site.  Not the right colors though.  Thank goodness for Picnik still being around.  By the way, anyone else find any new programs to replace Picnik?

Here is how I altered the picture using Picnik.  I went over the birds very carefully with an orange color and used circle shapes to cover the flowers on the branches with her teal.  I hid the names with a white square and cropped it so the border would go away.  

You know how excited you get when something works out how it should in your mind?  This was one of those moments!!!  I was giddy with excitement and amazement really.

Now to duplicate the invite format.  I use Microsoft Publisher for all my invites.  It allows me to really move things around with ease.  You may use another program of your choice.  The trick to making invites like this is to use a lot of text boxes.  Almost everything has it's own text box.  This allows you to really make each element unique when it calls for it.

All the font was originally black but it needed some touches of her color and adding the punch of color made it look more like the original from the wedding website.

I just adore these and she is happy which is all that matters.  

Her envelopes will be the mandarin orange color.  One more layer of color to tie it all together.

Well Hello There...Wedding 1 of 2 Show and Tell

Here I am posting after months of not publishing anything. 

 I have been busy.  Busy helping the first of my 2 sisters plan their wedding.  My 2nd sister is coming to town this weekend and I hope we can start knocking out ideas for her's.  Because of this my blogging and other things have taken a back seat. 

 I love being able to help them.  

Upon my return I have learned that so much has changed in blog land.  I am determined to catch up with the times and update my blog as needed.  I did want to show you what we have been up to for the past 2 months.  Thanks to Pinterest, planning for a wedding becomes a bit more inspired.  

I will first apologize for some of the picture qualities.  I forgot my camera at home and had to use my phone.  Booo!!!

  Colette's wedding invite and rsvp card.  We played around with some ideas until we came up with this.

There are a ton of ideas for wording and design online.  Take some time to search until you find what you like.  You can duplicate a lot that you see out there.

account but I can't find them.  Oh well.  

We bought these containers at the Dollar Tree.

Take some tape wrap it around. 

 Press the edges all down good.  Spray paint with color of choice.  

Peal off tape and you are good to go.

Wax luminaries.  We made these for the wedding and reception.  They were so easy!  My mom bought bulk wax online for a steal and we dyed them with wax dye.  I had to throw some crayons in there to darken the green.  It originally came out very yellow green.  Click here for tutorial.  They are still making more.  We only got about 40 done.  I am all about low cost classy decor.  My HB wants to make these for the  back yard for when we entertain.

 Bridal Shower time.  

Pom poms with pink and green hues.  I never want to make another pom pom for as long as I live.  Well, for Cherie I will.

 We cut out a letter C from foam board and hot glued tulle to it.  Again, I am done with tulle for awhile.  It took 2yrd to cover this C.  I think it was worth all the burns and time.

Gift table as you walked in.  More pom poms and some of the cheapest garland I have ever made.  We had more, but lets just say it decided to have a mind of it's own come shower day and tangled into a huge mess.  I am rethinking it to use at the wedding too.

Grab a ton of paint chips in your colors and use a hole punch to get the circles.  Hot glued fishing line to the back.  Hang wherever. 

We offered Raspberry lemonade, water with oranges and raspberries and mimosas.  We tried to stay within the pink hues.

Pom Poms

One tip on pom poms.  If you are making them ahead you will need to hang them so they don't flatten.  We had to refluff quite a few of them before the shower and now they are hanging to stay perfect for the wedding.  Colette is making more for the big day. 

 I will not be apart of that session.  hahahahaha

There ya go.  Some of the few things I have been busy with.  More to come involving Colette's wedding.  As we make things for Cherie's I will post them as well.

14 Days of Love

Love is in the air!!  

My first post for the Month of Love is, what I hope becomes, 

a new tradition in our house.  

Our first annual 14 Days of Love.  

I was looking over 1 Corinthians 13 in church last Sunday and I realized that there were 14 descriptions of love.  What a great time to focus on all the things love is and is not.  It is a verb after all.  An action.  Every day we choose to or not to show love.  I know my boys could use a lesson in how to love each other and as for my HB and I, well, it is always good to have a refresher course.  I am glad you are here to follow along and maybe start your own 

14 Days of Love.

Don't judge.  I have saved this box in hopes to use it and I have finally found a use.

I cut the flaps of this box so I didn't have to worry about gluing them down.  

I then cut paper to Mod Podge around it.  I made the paper a little longer and wider so it would wrap nicer.

I cut out some extra fun things to help dress up my box. I used Mod Podge to glue them down which also helped seal the black paper.  It is hard to read but the front says Love is...

I made little tags to place in the box.  Each day we will pull a new one and focus on that action for the day.

Here is the finished product.  All ready to go.

FINDING LOVE OVER AT...

He Put a New Song in My Mouth Printable

I meet with some friends on Wednesdays to chat, complain, laugh, cry, eat, etc...  We normally do a book study together while our kiddos are in youth programs at church.  We have decided to read Get Out of That Pit by Beth Moore.  I do enjoy her books.  They have a good amount of nuggets I can take out of them and apply not only in my walk with God, but in my daily life as well.  I wish I could give a break down of this book, but we have just begun.

While thumbing through it to look at all the chapters I ran across this saying, "He Put A New Song In My Mouth."  I don't know why it grabbed my attention, but it did.  I thought, "how relevant in all aspects of my life."   All the goals I want to achieve, the weight I finally want to be rid of, the quite time I need to make more of my daily schedule, the words that come out of my mouth, the negative thoughts that weigh me down, the fears of failure.  

Can you relate?  Well, I am excited about God putting a new song in my mouth.  It gives me hope. 

With all of that said, I am finally trying my hand at printables.  Hopefully I have done all the research correctly so you will be able to print this out as well.  It is sized to print up to 81/2 x 11.  You should just be able to save it to your computer from here.  Right click and select save image as.  

If it does not work I will try a second time, so please let me know if you have problems.  Also, let me know if you download it and where you are putting it.  Mine is going in my bathroom for now.  I spend way too much time in there getting ready so it will be nice to have this reminder in a frame on my vanity.

Happy New Year!!!

Oh my goodness. I didn't realize I had been gone from blogging for so long. Well, I am back and have lots of fun things lined up. I hope you all haven't given up on me. My first post back is not going to be a project but a recipe. It's the New Year and I know we always want to put eating healthy and losing weight down to tackle as resolutions. Well, seeing that God deemed it fit to give me all the bad Italian genes I have to work really hard to fight all the curves my ethnicity gives me.  Plus now I have two sister's weddings to prepare for in 2012.  I have made it my mission to get serious about tracking food again. GAG!!! As much as I hate it, it works for me. I can't have too much change in my life so any food/dietary changes stay as close to normal as possible. What was on our menu tonight? Sliders, coleslaw and sweet potato fries all for a total of 550 calories!!!! Not bad, and I walked away full and satisfied. Plus the guys all loved it. SCORE!!!
