Pinwheels!

If you are new to my blog I have 2 sisters getting married this year. If you have been following me for awhile then you know I have been busy helping them out in any way possible.  I will share with you a picture from Colette's wedding at the end of this post.  Cherie's is in July and this weekend she is getting together with some girlfriends to work on projects for her wedding.  She called to see if I could email directions for pinwheels that we had researched awhile back.  

 Might as well make a post about it.

 

Hopefully these photos and directions are not confusing for you.  Some of the directions I found when first researching these were a bit confusing.  This is how I figured it out through trial and error.  

I used 12x12 paper

(Still have on wedding nails.  

They must come off, I can't craft with them. haha)

Your strips should look like this.

Step 4

(I used tape for time sake, but glue stick will work fine)

Step 5

There ya go.  I put hot glue in the middle to help keep it flat and together.  With 3" strips your pinwheel will be about 6" in diameter.  If you need larger ones, I would suggest gluing more than 2 together or using bigger paper so your strips are longer.  

Here are some options from this pinwheel.

I made a second smaller pinwheel.  This is 1" strips.

You can add letters on top of the white circle if you choose.

You can layer these cuties any way you want.  The sky is the limit.  That is the one thing I love most about them.  

The possibilities are limitless.

Flower Balls Dollar Tree Style

Raise your hand if you love you some Dollar Tree!

ME, ME, ME, ME, I DO!!!

I was in there one day looking for some gift bags and remembered seeing a flower ball made out of silk flowers and a wiffle ball for the base. I was like, WHAT!!  That is so genius.

"Might as well look for these things while I am in here", I thought with a grin and a walk of a determination.

Low and behold they had a 4 pack of wiffle balls, but I wasn't liking any of their silk flowers.  I mean, I love the DT and all but their silk flowers are nothing to brag about.  A little discouraged I continued to peruse the isles.  And there they were...cute little rose buds in containers for gifts.  I was so excited I just grabbed 6 of them.  3 cream and 3 light pink.

My day was now complete and I left the DT a happy woman.

Back at home I plugged in the hot glue gun, pulled out the wiffle balls and started opening the flower packages up. 
"Wow, these smell pretty."  I examined the container closer.  Ya, I bought rose petal soaps.  You can throw them in your bathtub for a relaxing bath filled with aroma therapy.  Who has time for that?  I was determined to not get discouraged and  glue these bad boys onto the wiffle ball.  I wanted flower balls and I was gonna get flower balls.  In the world of crafting sometimes you just have to go with it.  Am I right ladies?

Any who...It took all of 3 containers to make one ball.  It was a little tricky on glue placements when it came to the holes in the wiffle balls, but again, you just have to go with it.  There is really no tutorial to go with this.  Just glue them as close as possible so you see less of the ball.  Plus it looks prettier the fuller it is.  In about an hour I had completed 2 flower balls both costing around $3.25 each.  Not bad.  Wanna see how I decorated with them, huh, do ya?

Remember this shot from my Vitamin Storage post.  The cream ball is on my vanity sitting on a votive candle holder.  I can't wait to paint my walls a soft grey which will make it pop that much more.

The pink one is in my entry way greeting visitors with it's delicate fragrance.  hahahaha.

Can you believe these flowers are bath products?  I'm just glad they worked.  I simply adore them.  What do you guys think?

Cute Vitamin Storage

 How many of you take vitamins?  

In my effort to live healthier one of those items is to regularly take vitamins.  It is such an easy thing to do, yet I forget all the time.  I have learned I need to keep the bottles on the sink or I will forget to take them.  Well, I hate the bottles.  

They are ugly and plain!  

 I have tried to make my sink as feminine as possible and these vitamin bottles are killing my efforts.  I decided one day while doing my hair to make my own bottles.  Cute bottles.

This tutorial is all about my efforts.  

 I picked up these containers at Walmart for around $2 each. 

I cut out a design with vinyl using my Cricut.    I thought it would be cute to use the periodic table symbol for Calcium, hence the (Ca). 

I then placed the vinyl on the containers and took some Dover White(the best white ever!!!) spray paint to them.  I did several coats to block as much light as possible from getting to the vitamins.  They come in those ugly containers for a reason.   

Once they dried completely I peeled off the vinyl and walla.

I am going to let them sit over the weekend before putting vitamins in there.  I want as much of the spray fumes and smell to go away before putting my vitamins in them.

And there ya go, a quick, easy, simple idea for making vitamin containers cuter.

DIY Wedding Invites for Cherie

If you are just tuning in both of my sisters are getting married this year.  One in April and the other in July.  Cherie came down this weekend to get away and do some wedding planning.  We had a great time.  I wanted to share her wedding invites so you can see how easy it is to make your own.

It does take some time and if you aren't used to using a word publishing program it may take you more time.  The money you will save on this DIY is worth the time.  Cherie's invites will cost her a total of $0.10 each.  Did you hear me?  10 cents each!!!!  Yep, I think that is well worth the 4 hrs we put in from start to finish.  When is comes to assembling, get your girlfriends together and have a party.  These little cuties are on my list of favorites invites I have ever made for anyone.

To start off, we scoured the internet for ideas of what she liked and was looking for.  We ran across this really neat blog that had free printable invites ( DIY invitations ).  Cherie loved it because it had her colors in the invite.  Plus it customized it to your color scheme and info.  Awesome!  Easy!  Well... Cherie didn't like some of the wording and we couldn't change some things due to the program so we came to a stand still.

Cherie also decided she wanted to birds on it so it matched her save the date card.  I then suggested birds on a branch.  We fell in love with this picture off a wedding site.  Not the right colors though.  Thank goodness for Picnik still being around.  By the way, anyone else find any new programs to replace Picnik?

Here is how I altered the picture using Picnik.  I went over the birds very carefully with an orange color and used circle shapes to cover the flowers on the branches with her teal.  I hid the names with a white square and cropped it so the border would go away.  

You know how excited you get when something works out how it should in your mind?  This was one of those moments!!!  I was giddy with excitement and amazement really.

Now to duplicate the invite format.  I use Microsoft Publisher for all my invites.  It allows me to really move things around with ease.  You may use another program of your choice.  The trick to making invites like this is to use a lot of text boxes.  Almost everything has it's own text box.  This allows you to really make each element unique when it calls for it.

This is what takes so long; all the text boxes and lining 

it all up.  Invites that don't require so much detail 

will obviously be a lot easier.  

All the font was originally black but it needed some touches of her color and adding the punch of color made it look more like the original from the wedding website.  

Drum roll please......

EEEEEKKKKK, are you ready for it!!!!!

I just adore these and she is happy which is all that matters.  

Her envelopes will be the mandarin orange color.  One more layer of color to tie it all together.
